New Educational Mindsets For The Information Age
Managing change in a world on the move

Abstract:

We all hate change - it's just a natural function of our human nature. We invest time and effort into learning how to do things and then we get comfortable with the way things are. However, this comfort zone we construct can be a real hindrance when change comes knocking on the door. In fact, attachment to the way things are can lead to a syndrome Alvin Tofler called "Future Shock". Simply put, Future Shock is the disorientation caused when people are forced to change too much, too quickly.

In this presentation, we will look at some of the forces putting pressure on educators to change. We will then look at what causes resistance to change from a personal point of view. We will examine the effect programmed decisions have on our openness to change. Then we will take a brief look at why the thinking of yesterday and today isn't going to cut it tomorrow. We will then look at four strategies educators can employ to make us successful as we handle the changes that will inevitably come our way.
