Beyond Information
Learning in the age of creativity

Abstract:

The information explosion has reached the point where the number of Web pages will probably exceed the population of our planet by 2002. Information is in such abundance that it no longer functions as a driving force for learning. The volume of accessible information is joined by the move to portable learning devices that will be with us whenever and wherever we need them. As a result, new opportunities for education will proliferate.

Against this backdrop, it is essential to think about the role of educational institutions of all kinds as they shift to the task of preparing learners for life in the post-information society. This dynamic presentation explores the current trends and explores the emergence of technology-supported tools for creative exploration and problem solving that will provide learners with the skills they will need to thrive in the coming years. Demonstrations of current tools combine with visions of what is yet to come in a way that makes this presentation a "must see" for anyone interested in the future of education.
