Digital Imaging Across The Curriculum
Workshop 3:
Advanced Digital ImagingNote: This workshop requires a computer lab and that participants have the skills covered in the first workshop. With the rapid growth of digital camera sales, educators have new opportunities to allow students to explore virtually any subject at almost every grade with the aid of these devices. This dynamic hands-on workshop introduces educators to the power of student-generated images and includes instruction on camera selection, basic camera use, composition, simple editing, and publishing of student projects either in print or for the web or CD-ROM.
Abstract:
Once educators are familiar with digital imaging tools (cameras and scanners) and the software needed to edit images and create finished products, they are ready to engage in the design and implementation of projects that can reach across the curriculum and across most grade levels.
This final workshop in the series provides strategies, tools, and practice in lesson creation that takes advantage of student-generated digital images. After exploring a few sample projects, participants are provided with a design guide for their own projects and coached on project creation using images generated by the participants themselves. (Participants should bring cameras and images to the workshop with them.)
During this workshop participants will examine:
• Elements of lesson design.
• Transform their design into a prototype activity
• Examine a variety of project-creation strategies including digital storytelling, and other effective processes depending on the curriculum area and grade level selected by each participant.Handouts: Each participant receives a complete course workbook and CD-ROM containing sample activities, resources, and demonstration versions of every software title used in the workshop.
