Jamming With Technology For Learning

Abstract:

When musicians jam, they go through a process that has great relevance for students and educators interested in mastery of an academic topic. The work as a team, but everyone solos. They help each other when needed, they move beyond the original scope of the project, and learn many new things about the subject in the process.

This presentation explores these and other rules of jamming from an educational context, and shows how jamming is a great tool for project-based learning, especially when the "instruments" of technology are included. Part musical performance, part lecture, part audience participation, and part intellectual jam session, this dynamic presentation models the principles it espouses.
