Abstract:

The debate over skills needed by all students has raged for years with often conflicting results. Consequently, the curriculum in many schools has changed at glacial pace when compared with the world outside the classroom walls. This presentation explores a set of foundational skills needed by all who expect to work in the coming years. This set was identified by in-depth analysis of actual job decriptions from employers all over the United States. Because this research is based on actual job descriptions, it is important for educators to understand not only what skills are needed, but how these skills can be acquired by students before they leave school and confront the harsh realities of job hunting!
