Unlocking The Power of The Net:
Breaking the rearview mirrorAbstract:
Radio and television were both predicted to have a tremendous impact on education , yet these media have failed to live up to expectations. Now the Web is being heralded as the next "big thing" as a learning tool. What makes the Web different? Why might the Web succeed where previous media have failed?
This presentation explores this topic and suggests that, in terms of its potential impact, the Internet is the most underhyped communications technology in history, but its application in education can be held back by the metaphors we use to describe it. This dynamic presentation, based on Marshall McLuhan's concept of "hot" and "cool" technologies coupled with his "laws of media" breaks through our limited perspectives to reveal the hidden power that will help any educator use the Web in truly transformative ways.
The revolution will be different this time! Come to this presentation and find out why.
