Technology is Vanishing:
What will you teach when it disappears?Abstract:
Technology is becoming invisible! As unbelievable as it sounds, it’s true. It used to be that computers were big and very noticeable. Now computers are becoming so small they are popping up everywhere. Just look at the explosion of hand-held devices in the last few years. And not only is technology becoming less noticeable, the interface between the machine and the person using it is becoming much more natural. We are starting to use normal handwriting and aural commands to communicate with electronic assistants. Further, biological science has made great strides in connecting electronic devices directly to a person’s body. It won’t be long before technology becomes ubiquitous and its use becomes as natural as talking or thinking.
What skills will people need in a world where technology is everywhere and its use is completely natural? Are we preparing our students for the realities they will face in the 21st century? These are critical questions that we must answer if we are going to keep our instruction relevant for our students. In this presentation we will look at the trends in technology that are making it disappear. We will also outline the kinds of skills people will need to use new technology effectively and surprise, they are not technology skills!
