Velcro Learning
Keys to making instruction stickAbstract:
Every teacher has experienced the frustration of teaching something to students only to discover they retain only a small portion of the instruction. This is a major concern, especially with the increased testing requirements of current legislation. So how do you make learning stick?
In this presentation we will explore some of the ways teachers can create the other side of the Velcro so our instruction will stay in the minds of our students. We will look at what current brain research is telling us about long-term memory. We will examine some of the research in modern psychology into the reasons many of our students are not learning as well as they used to. We will also look at the role technology can play in assisting the learning in our classroom. Participants should be prepared to take a critical look at how they prepare lessons for modern students.
