Digital Imaging Across The Curriculum

Workshop 2:
Image Editing and Effects for Classroom-based Digital Imaging

Note: This workshop requires a computer lab and that participants have the skills covered in the first workshop. With the rapid growth of digital camera sales, educators have new opportunities to allow students to explore virtually any subject at almost every grade with the aid of these devices. This dynamic hands-on workshop introduces educators to the power of student-generated images and includes instruction on camera selection, basic camera use, composition, simple editing, and publishing of student projects either in print or for the web or CD-ROM.

Abstract:

The power of digital imaging in the classroom is unleashed with the aid of a variety of computer programs that should be on every classroom computer. This workshop is geared to educators who are new to digital imaging and have just started working with their own camera and/or scanner.

Participants should bring their cameras and a selection of images with which they want to work. During the first part of this workshop, participants will:
• Explore image editing and touch-up using Photoshop Elements, ImageBlender and other inexpensive tools.
• Learn how to apply special effects to their images including the use of artistic filters and the creation of photomosaics.

Once still-image editing is explored, participants will learn how to turn still images into movies using pan/zoom effects, and the morphing of one image into another. The next step is to learn how to create multimedia projects using eZedia QTI2. This portion of the day also explores the creation of sound tracks for projects using digital images.

All explorations of the tools in this workshop will be done in the context of classroom projects connected to specific curriculum areas selected by the participants.

Handouts: Each participant receives a complete course workbook and CD-ROM containing sample activities, resources, and demonstration versions of every software title used in the workshop.
